Tourist Attractions in Mysore

Mysore Palace: It is also known as the Mysore Maharaja palace and is situated in the heart of the city. It has exquisite carvings, large halls that were once durbar to Chamaraja Wodeyar. It is now converted into a museum, which holds paintings, jewelry, royal costumes, musical instruments that were once used by the royal family.

Jaganmohan Art gallery: It has a vast reserve of ancient artifacts, beautiful paintings of Raja Ravi Verma. One of the main attractions is the painting of the Lady with a Lamp.

Chamundi Hills: The hills are named after Goddess Chamundi. On top of the hills there is a temple where people come worship the Goddess. It is at a height of 1000mts. There are a few attractions on top of the hills like the Mahishasura Statue, the Chamundeswari temple, and a few other temples nearby.

Mysore Zoo: It is situated in a lush green 100 acre plot of land, right in the heart of the city. It has some rare and exquisite animals and birds. You can find animals like lions, peacocks, white tigers ,hippo ,nilgiri langur ,parakeet ,brown Himalayan bears and many others. A must see for kids.

Brindavan Garden and KRS Dams: The most popular tourist destinations are the Brindavan garden that is located at the KRS Dam, built across the Kaveri river. The garden is decorated with manicured lawns, picturesque flower beds and brilliant fountains.

St. Philomena's Church: An architectural landmark in Mysore that is very popular amongst the tourists. It is one of the largest churches in South India. The antiquities of St. Philomena's are stored in an unusual underground chamber.

Government Silk Weaving Factory: When it comes to silk, there is no match for Mysore silks. One of the special features of this silk factory is that the customer can choose the material of choice: silk sari or silk material which comes straight from the looms. Because of the high demand of silk garments by the locals and tourists, the Government has opened up outlets and showrooms in the city.

Lakes in Mysore: There are five major lakes in Mysore namely Kukkarahalli lake, Ligambudhi lake, Karanji lake, Devanoor lake and Dalavai lake. The picture postcard scenery at these lakes is breathtaking. You can bird-watch and admire the beauty of nature; there are a large variety of birds that visit the Lakes: Little Grebes, Purple Moorhens, Cormorants, Herons, Spot billed Ducks, even the Small Blue Kingfisher are often spotted near these water bodies.
